A structural steel beam connects to a frame column flange using complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flanges with continuous plates on both sides. A vertical shear plate is welded to the column flange and bolted to the beam web with three bolts. A backing bar is welded to the continuous plate with a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld. Additional field welds include a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld at the erection plate.
