This assembly facilitates roof expansion through a slip connection consisting of two L8x4x7/16 angles, each 1 foot 3 inches long, connected to the joist top chord. The vertical legs of the angles feature three-inch long slotted holes to allow for movement, secured by two 3/4-inch diameter bolts that are finger-tightened with scored threads to prevent loosening. The angles are welded to the joist top chord with 3/16-inch fillet welds on three sides. The assembly is spaced at 6 feet on center, and the overlapping roof deck must remain unattached at the joint to accommodate thermal movement. A separate L3x3x1/4 flange brace is welded to the beam with 3/16-inch fillet welds on three sides at each end.
