A wide flange steel column supports a steel beam framing into the column web via a single-sided connection plate. The beam web connects to the web plate using six high-strength bolts in a vertical two-column configuration. Horizontal stiffener plates are welded to the column flanges above and below the connection zone. Welds are specified on three sides typically with a size three weld symbol. A maximum three-inch clearance is maintained between the beam end and the column face.
