Side plates are welded to the steel beam web and aligned flush with the toe of the flange at top and bottom typical on each side, using five-sixteenths inch fillet welds. A side plate thickness schedule correlates W24 beam sizes ranging from W24x176 to W24x306 with plate thicknesses from three-quarters of an inch to one and one-half inches. Incoming beams connect to the slotted side plate with C30 connections as specified per plan. At incoming stair hangers, the side plate is slotted similarly to the end shear tab connection.
