This structural connection detail shows a steel beam framed into the web of a supporting beam using a three-bolt shear plate. The connection utilizes a 3/8-inch shear plate with seven-eighths-inch diameter ASTM A325-N bolts, which are snug tightened. The top flange of the supported beam is coped as required, maintaining specified edge distances including 2-1/2 inches from the centerline, 1-1/2 inches at standard holes, and 1-3/4 inches at horizontal short slotted holes. A 1/4-inch fillet weld secures the shear plate to the supporting beam web, with a designated schedule table determining dimension X based on the supporting beam K-dimension. An alternative full-depth shear plate detail is also provided, utilizing 1/4-inch fillet welds on three sides.
