A stair stringer channel frames into a wide flange support beam below a concrete slab on metal deck. A one-quarter-inch stiffener plate is welded to the wide flange beam with complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom flanges and web. The stringer channel attaches to the stiffener plate using two three-quarter-inch diameter A325N bolts spaced at three inches. Fillet welds of one-quarter-inch size are applied on three sides typically. A gap of three-quarters of an inch maximum is maintained at the connection.
