A structural steel base plate is anchored to a concrete foundation using a headed anchor bolt or threaded bar with heavy hex nuts at both ends. A leveling nut is positioned beneath the base plate, and non-shrink grout fills the space to the top of concrete elevation per the plan. Washers are provided at the top and bottom, with spoiled threads specified two places below the nut. Where oversize holes occur in base plates for columns in braced or moment frames, welded plate washers per AISC Design Guide 1 are required.
