A wide flange beam or channel connects to an HSS column using a shear plate welded to the column face with a one-quarter inch fillet weld and bolted to the beam web with bolts sized per plan. A cap plate is welded to the top of the HSS column with a half-inch weld. A separate weld symbol indicates a top and bottom connection designated with an M mark.
