A structural steel connection features a buckling-restrained brace framing into a gusset plate welded to a column and beam intersection. The column is capped with a one-and-one-quarter-inch plate welded with a complete joint penetration weld on the top and bottom, and five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides. The beam connects with full-depth stiffener plates and three-quarter-inch backing plates secured by two three-quarter-inch diameter erection bolts. A gusset plate supplied per the buckling-restrained brace manufacturer connects the brace with a bolted connection, aligning the brace centerline with the work point at the beam centerline. Three-quarter-inch stiffener plates are provided in two places with five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds on three sides.
