Concrete slab openings require supplemental reinforcing bars placed around all sides and diagonal bars at each corner. Perimeter reinforcement consists of two number four bars centered on all sides, providing a total area equal to at least one-half the area of the slab reinforcement interrupted by the opening. Each corner receives two number four by forty-eight inch diagonal bars centered in place. Openings maintain a maximum dimension of six feet per architecture, with a minimum two-foot dimension and one and one-half inch typical clearance.
