A structural steel beam has its bottom flange cut from the web and bent at a slope of one to six to achieve a reduced depth matching perpendicular framing. A fill plate matching the beam web is provided at the tapered transition. The web is finished with complete joint penetration welds at the top and bottom typically. Depth transitions align with plates per specified detail references on sheet S52-00.
