Framing configurations for openings eighteen inches or larger in metal floor decks with concrete toppings utilize inverted angle headers spanning between open web steel joists, with ends coped to suit the joist profile. An inverted angle sized at three by three by one-quarter inches drops one-quarter inch below the primary five-inch angle on two sides. A one-quarter-inch closure plate lines all four sides of the deck opening, bearing on the supporting angles. Pins or screws attach the floor deck to the perimeter angles at six inches on center. The secondary angle is omitted where dimension A is less than twelve inches.
