This connection joins wide flange beams to a hollow structural section column using three-eighths inch thick side plates welded to the column faces. The side plates are sized with a width of B minus four times the tube thickness. The beams are bolted to these side plates, with a maximum clearance of two and one-half inches typical between the beam flange and the column face. A five-sixteenths inch fillet weld is specified for the plate-to-column connection. A cap plate is provided at the top of the hollow structural section column.
