The beam flanges feature complete joint penetration welds typically, with continuity plates matching the column flange. Plate thicknesses are specified as one-quarter inch plus the beam flange thickness for plate two, and one-quarter inch plus the beam web thickness for plate one. Four-inch return welds are specified top and bottom, typically. Shear connections utilize vertical plates with four bolts securing the beam webs.
