A reinforced concrete dock leveler pit features perimeter steel angles anchored into the slab and wall edges. The pit perimeter consists of L4x4x5/16 galvanized steel angles at the sides, secured with 1/2 inch diameter by 4 1/2 inch headed studs at 24 inches on center, and an L4x4x3/8 angle at the back with 1/2 inch diameter by 6 inch headed studs at 12 inches on center. The tilt-up wall panel rests on a footing with two shim packs per panel and a continuous non-shrink grout bed, utilizing #8 drift pins at 1 foot long installed by the tilt wall contractor. Slab reinforcement consists of #4 bars at 12 inches on center, with additional #4 dowels at 16 inches on center with 1 foot 6 inch legs provided at three sides of the pit. A 1/2 inch expansion joint occurs at the pavement interface, and a 3/4 inch double chamfer is specified at the edge of the opening. All steel angles are coordinated with the dock leveler manufacturer, and the pit floor is cast in two pours, labeled Pour A and Pour B, with diamond dowels at the construction joint.
