A wide-flange beam connects to a wide-flange column flange using top and bottom flange connection plates matched to the beam steel grade. Stiffener plates are welded to each side of the column web, sized according to the greater of the top or bottom flange thicknesses. Five-sixteenth-inch fillet welds attach the plates typically, with additional connection plates detailed per separate sheet references. For opposing beams of different depths up to three inches maximum, the bottom stiffener plate is sloped between the beam flanges. All stiffener plates and connection plates are specified as Grade 50 plate.
