A wide flange or hollow structural steel column bears on a base plate secured by ASTM F1554 Grade 36 anchor bolts with double nuts and plate washers. The column base sits above a concrete footing with one and a half inches of non-shrink grout and leveling nuts as required. A ten-mil visqueen vapor barrier runs over the footing beneath the concrete fill. A quarter-inch continuous sheet flexible foam isolation joint filler wraps the column, finished with sealant and a backer rod at the slab interface. A circular block-out is provided in the slab where the column does not align with intersecting slab joints.
