An HSS beam connects to an HSS column sized per plan using a structural seat angle. A 4x4x3/8-inch by 6-inch angle supports depths between 4 and 6 inches, while a 6x6x3/8-inch by 6-inch angle supports depths greater than 6 inches. The angle is fillet welded to the column face, and the supported HSS beam is welded to the seat angle with quarter-inch fillet welds.
