A buckling restrained brace connects to a structural column base plate supported by a concrete foundation with anchor bolts and a shear lug. A gusset plate with a three-quarter-inch minimum thickness welds to the structure, while optional stiffener plates reinforce the column flange. A one-and-a-half-inch non-shrink grout layer packs beneath the base plate, and similar grout surrounds the structural steel shear lug embedded in the concrete pier. The shear lug measures one and three-quarters by five inches by the base plate width in Grade 50 steel. The column bearing elevation is sized per the structural plan.
