A hollow structural section column per plan connects to a steel base plate measuring five-eighths inch by fourteen inches by one foot two inches, embedded flush with the top of the concrete slab. The column is secured to the base plate with a one-quarter inch fillet weld on four sides. Four half-inch diameter by six-inch weldable headed studs anchor the base plate into the concrete slab. Additional reinforcing includes two number four bars by forty-eight inches each way for a total of four bars surrounding the embedment.
