These structural steel column splice and cap plate details illustrate framing connections for mill column ends. Cap plates are sized at one and one-half inches thick for W8 or W10 shapes and two inches thick for W12 or larger shapes. Stiffener plates measuring one-half by sixteen inches are specified near side and far side on select configurations. Welds are sized per AISC standards, with specific fillet weld dimensions called out at the flange and web. Notes indicate welds are not required at W10x and smaller shapes to steel, and detail welding requirements are referenced for steel mill column ends.
