A steel tube stair stringer with a coped end bears directly onto a supporting steel beam flange. A one-quarter-inch-thick steel closure plate is welded to the end of the stringer with a three-sixteenth-inch typical complete joint penetration weld. The concrete slab over metal deck features a blockout at the stair stringer bearing location, coordinated with architectural drawings.
