A new steel column sized per foundation plan supports an existing 16-inch perimeter pipe at the main roof level. A 1-inch thick cap plate tops the column, welded to the pipe with a 1/4-inch fillet weld. Continuity plates matching the beam flange thickness are welded inside the column flanges with 3/16-inch fillet welds. A 1/4-inch plate shaped to fit the exterior of the 16-inch pipe is welded to each column flange. An existing Kalwall system ties into the perimeter assembly below.
