A hollow structural section steel column bears on a steel base plate set on one and one-half inches of non-shrink grout above a concrete footing. Anchor bolts embedded in the concrete footing secure the base plate and column assembly. A concrete pour back surrounds the column base within a cutout in the concrete slab on grade, which rests on four inches minimum of sub-base material per the geotechnical report. An isolation joint extends the full depth of the slab around the pour back, finished with an elastomeric joint sealant at the top where the slab remains exposed.
