A pipe penetrates the concrete foundation wall through a sleeve sized to maintain a 1-inch clearance all around, reinforced above and below with one number 5 bar spanning twenty-four inches. Footings and grade beams prohibit pipe penetrations directly through them, requiring thickened footing zones when pipes pass close to the bottom. The steel column sits in a column socket surrounded by fiber board, set within a concrete slab featuring control or construction joints.
