An HSS beam connects to an HSS column using top and bottom L4x4x1/2 structural steel angles cut to the column width. The angles are welded to the HSS column with 5/16-inch fillet welds on both sides. The HSS beam connects to the angles with 1/4-inch fillet welds along three sides typically at the top and bottom. A maximum 1/2-inch clearance is maintained between the beam end and the column face unless noted otherwise.
