Continuity plates and stiffener plates are welded to a wide-flange steel column with specific detailing requirements near the column web k-area. The continuity plate thickness is sized to the beam flange thickness plus one-eighth inch minimum, with a fillet weld size equal to five-eighths of the continuity plate thickness applied on three sides. Weld placement is kept one and one-half inches minimum away from the column k-areas, maintaining a one-half inch maximum clearance from the k1 dimension line.
