A steel beam frames into a hollow structural section steel column using a five-eighths by eleven-inch plate centered on the beam with four seven-eighths-inch A325N galvanized bolts at standard beam gauge. Three-eighths-inch stiffener plates are welded to each side of the hollow structural section column, flush with the beam flange. Fillet welds of five-sixteenths inch are applied typically around the stiffener plates, and a one-half-inch weld connects the column base. A secondary steel beam connects via a beam-to-beam connection per detail one on sheet S52-00.
