A hollow structural section or wide flange column bears directly onto a continuous steel beam member below. A three-quarter-inch thick base plate welded to the column with a five-sixteenths inch fillet weld secures to the top flange of the beam using four three-quarter-inch diameter A325N bolts. Full depth three-eighths inch stiffener plates align with the column web on each side of the beam web, welded with quarter-inch fillet welds. The column centerline aligns with the beam and column reference grid.
