An interior new concrete slab-on-grade is placed within a sawcut opening in the existing slab-on-grade, reinforced with number four bars at eighteen inches on center each way. The new slab maintains a four-inch minimum thickness and ties into the existing slab using number three dowels measuring two feet in length with four-inch embedment at eighteen inches on center. These dowels are secured into the existing concrete using epoxy typically at the perimeter. The existing slab edges feature sawcuts as required with equalization dimensions.
