An HSS beam connects to a supporting main beam using standard holes in the beam web and a connecting plate fastened with four 7/8-inch diameter A325 bolts. A 3/8-inch stiffener plate is centered on the HSS and welded on three sides with a quarter-inch fillet weld for the one-sided connection. Two-sided connections use standard quarter-inch fillet welds typically applied along the connection plate.
