Shear studs are welded to rail plates embedded in a concrete slab of thickness T. The design incorporates a one-inch concrete cover at the top and bottom with stud diameters and head dimensions referenced to the schedule and note 3. Additional stud placement criteria apply for slabs thicker than twelve inches per note 8. Spacing S1 governs the stud arrangement along the embedded rail plate.
