An open-web steel joist is reinforced to support concentrated loads exceeding one hundred pounds. Additional diagonal web members constructed from minimum L2x2x3/16 angle sections are installed adjacent to the applied load point. The supplementary members span between the top and bottom chords of the joist within six inches of the concentrated load.
