A structural steel brace connects to a gusset plate made from one-half inch A572 Grade 50 plate, which is welded to a steel column and bearing plate. The brace member is slotted one-eighth inch maximum wider than the gusset plate thickness and secured with bolts. A bearing plate measuring three-quarters by six inches is attached with eight seven-eighth inch diameter A325 bolts at standard gauge. The steel column sits above a supporting steel beam featuring a full-depth shear plate as referenced on sheet S5.01. Fillet welds of various sizes connect the assembly components.
