This structural connection detail shows a continuous or cantilevered steel beam bearing over a steel column with a column top plate. Three-eighths-inch thick full-depth stiffener plates are welded to each side of the beam web over the column support. A three-eighths-inch plate with four three-quarter-inch diameter bolts fastens the lower beam flange to the column top plate using fillet welds. An upper column continues above the beam where permitted by plan. Clearances and edge distances are maintained at one inch minimum for smaller beam flange widths.
