A wide flange or rectangular/square structural steel column sits with a base plate below, centered within a concrete infill. The concrete infill is bounded by a round or square isolation joint lined with two layers of 30# felt, providing a minimum three-inch clearance from the column profile. A construction joint or contraction joint surrounds the perimeter of the assembly.
