An expansion joint separates a cast-in-place concrete paving slab from a vertical concrete foundation wall. The paving slab is one foot six inches thick and bears on a prepared aggregate base course designated as SCD for aggregate, backed by soil with a designated SLD for soil. The vertical concrete wall is reinforced with number four reinforcing bars spaced at twelve inches on center each way. An expansion joint material is placed vertically between the paving edge and the face of the concrete wall.
