Openings greater than two feet require one number four bar measuring four feet in length at each corner of the opening. Side bars replace the area of interrupted reinforcement with one-half on each side, maintaining a minimum of one number four bar. Hook bars are required when the opening is located less than two feet from the edge of the slab. A typical two-inch clearance is maintained throughout.
