A wide-flange beam is coped as required to frame into a supporting wide-flange beam reference plan. A three-eighths-inch full-depth stiffener plate is welded to the web with quarter-inch fillet welds on three sides typically. A reinforcing plate or bearing plate is connected to the coped beam web using two three-quarter-inch-diameter ASTM A325 bolts placed one on each side of the web and staggered diagonally. A one-half-inch full-depth stiffener plate is provided on each side of the supporting beam web typically.
