Two steel beams connect to opposite sides of a hollow structural section column using welded shear tabs and high-strength bolts. A three-eighths-inch thick plate is welded to the web of each steel beam with typical five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds. Three-eighths-inch bolts spaced at three inches on center secure the beam webs to the column through the shear tabs. Five-sixteenths-inch fillet welds attach the shear tabs to the face of the hollow structural section column.
