A continuous steel channel is connected to a hollow structural section column using a one-quarter-inch thick by nine-inch by zero-foot-six-inch shear plate centered on the channel. Four three-quarter-inch diameter welded threaded studs at three-inch gage spacing secure the assembly, centered on the shear plate. A one-quarter-inch thermal insulation material is placed between the plate and the channel, complemented by a one-quarter-inch thermal insulation washer with steel washers on each side of the thermal washer at every welded threaded stud. The shear plate is attached to the hollow structural section with three-sixteenth-inch fillet welds. The continuous channel features a one-quarter-inch shear plate at mid-span with a thirteen-foot six-inch maximum spacing.
