A concrete slab over metal deck bears directly on a wide-flange steel beam oriented perpendicularly to the flutes. Headed shear studs are welded through the metal deck into the top flange of the beam within the low flutes to develop composite action. Reinforcing bars are placed within the concrete topping per structural schedules. The size and spacing of the beam and deck are sized per structural plans.
