A beam connects to a hollow structural section column using a single shear plate slotted directly through the tube column with a one-half inch minimum extension. The connection uses quarter-inch fillet welds securing the plate to the hollow structural section faces at the tube corners without requiring a kerf. A single plate is specified where beams occur on both sides of the column. Fastener sizing and bolt counts follow the typical shear tab connection detail referenced on the drawing.
NOTES: 1. USE SINGLE PLATE WHERE BEAMS OCCUR ON BOTH SIDES OF COLUMN. 2. WELD PLATES TO HSS FACES AT TUBE CORNERS; NO KERF REQUIRED.
