A Grade 50 connection plate installs within a wide-flange steel column. Connection plate thickness matches the beam flange or stub flange plate thickness, whichever is greater. The plate welds to the column web using a D1.8 weld, with the weld size specified as half the connection plate thickness on each side. A one-quarter inch fillet weld is required at the column flanges, incorporating a one-half inch minimum radius. The assembly includes provisions for a free side condition where no beam is present, utilizing a typical D1.8 weld.
