A tapered steel beam connects to an edge beam using a full height one-half inch shear tab secured with bolts. A weld plate is applied at the bottom flange matching the thickness and width of the top flange typically at the splice. Three-quarter inch stiffener plates are positioned at each face of the beam matching the beam width with a minimum eighteen inch dimension. Five-sixteenth inch fillet welds are specified at four inches on center typically.
