A hollow structural section splice features two connecting HSS members aligned with a quarter-inch maximum gap, tied with L3x3x3/16 by five-inch angles on each side welded with a quarter-inch and three-sixteenths fillet weld. At the slab edge, a steel beam supports a concrete slab reinforced with number four hairpins at headed studs. An embedded half-inch by nine-inch by nine-inch plate with two five-eighths-inch diameter by four-and-a-half-inch headed studs at six inches on center anchors the assembly. An HSS4x4x1/4 member at eight feet on center with a cap plate welds to the slab edge connection with a three-sixteenths fillet weld, while a continuous HSS7x4x1/4 member spans above.
