Sequential concrete placements meet at a construction joint where the hardened face is cleaned and intentionally roughened to one-quarter inch. Reinforcing steel continues across the joint with a thirty-two-inch lap splice, maintaining structural diaphragm action. A fresh-side saw cut matches crack control joint profiles. Two inches of concrete clearance is provided typically throughout the slab thickness.
