An HSS beam frames into an HSS column using L4x4x1/2 angle sections cut to the column width at both the top and bottom of the beam. The angles are welded to the column with 5/16-inch fillet welds on both sides typically. The beam is attached to the angles with 1/4-inch fillet welds on three sides, maintaining a maximum clearance of 1/2 inch at the column face. The connection details are applied to the larger side of the HSS column unless noted otherwise.
