A structural steel beam bears onto a column using a three-quarter-inch thick cap plate whose width matches the beam flange or exceeds the column by one inch. Three-eighths-inch full-height stiffener plates are welded to the web and flanges on each side with five-sixteenth-inch fillets on three sides, extending as required for intersecting beams. The connection is secured with four three-quarter-inch diameter A325 bolts. All plates and welds are subject to the beam connection schedule and AISC specification section J2.
