A pipe penetrates through checkered plate and grating with a one-inch clearance between the pipe and the surrounding grating. The grating is banded with a one-quarter inch bent plate or a standard pipe size split in halves, extending four inches above and two inches below the grating surface. Banding is secured to the grating with a fillet weld at every second bearing bar. The inside diameter for the bent plate corresponds to the pipe size, ranging from six inches to twenty-four inches in diameter as specified in the design drawings.
